What happens when a family-controlled business moves into an iconic building? It appears the answer is that history comes alive. Or at least that was the case for Canada-based Loblaw Companies, which recently took over Maple Leaf Gardens, once home to hockey team the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Duerr’s, the oldest family-owned jam maker in the UK, is considering buying rival Hartley’s – which is thought to be worth between £170 million (€202 million) and £200 million.

You don’t often read about Canadian vineyards but Magnotta Winery in Ontario made headlines over the last few days, as the founding family has taken the company private, making it a 100% family-owned business.

The Magnottas, who previously controlled 60% of the Vaughan-based winery through their holding company, acquired all of the remaining shares last week.
