Italian fashion group Prada looks set to participate in the 34th America’s Cup, after Luna Rossa, the yacht team controlled by Prada’s chief executive Patrizio Bertelli, asked the family business for €40 million in sponsorship. 

Italian fashion group Prada looks set to participate in the 34th America’s Cup, after Luna Rossa, the yacht team controlled by Prada’s chief executive Patrizio Bertelli, asked the family business for €40 million in sponsorship.

If approved, the sponsorship will cover the cost of new yachts – the 34th Cup, which will be staged in San Francisco in 2013, requires the latest state-of-the-art C72 class catamaran - and the team’s base in San Francisco.

If you’re a wine connoisseur who's looking for a real estate investment, you could be in luck, as the house where Robert Mondavi, founder of California’s most famous winery, lived will be auctioned off on 16 November.

The house, immersed in Napa Valley, north of San Francisco, spans over 11,500 sq ft and is surrounded by 57 acres of vineyards and hills. It features a 50ft-long indoor swimming pool, a state-of-the-art kitchen and two lighted tennis courts.

Patrizia Reggiani, former wife of the luxury goods heir Maurizio Gucci, has refused a judge’s offer to go on probation, which would allow her to leave prison during the day to take up a job.

The 63-year old, who is serving a 26-year jail sentence for having her billionaire ex-husband murdered in March 1995, justified her decision by saying she is not used to working.

“I’ve never worked in my life. I’d rather spend my time in jail, where I’ve reached a mental equilibrium and where I can take care of my plants,” she said.

Lavazza, the Italian coffeemaker owned by the Lavazza family, has unveiled the 2012 edition of its famous calendar, best known for Ellen von Unwerth's 1995 pictures of Carla Bruni, the current French first lady.

To mark the 20th anniversary of the calendar, the company asked 12 photographers who had shot its previous editions to take self-portraits.

The result? A collection of pictures by worldwide celebrated photographers including Annie Leibovitz, David LaChapelle, Von Unwerth, Thierry Le Gouès and Mark Seliger in some eye-catching poses.

Getting a family business to survive past the third generation is a difficult task, it is often said. But not for one British company - John Brooke and Sons is currently in its 19th generation.

The Huddersfield-based business, which can trace its history back to 1541, will soon be celebrated in a new exhibition called A Story of a Yorkshire Mill: 400 Years of Cloth Making.
