What are you doing on 9 May? If the Gallo family has its way, you could be raising a glass of moscato to, well, moscato.
Fourth-generation Gallo Family Vineyards is calling on Americans to toast the grape, which has become increasingly popular in recent years. In fact, sales of moscato, also known as moscat, grew by over 70% last year in the US, faster than any other wine variety, according to figures from Symphony IRI.
And with sales of Gallo’s moscatos growing faster than those from any other major wine brand, it’s hardly surprising the vineyard is looking to toast the wine.
"By establishing National Moscato Day, we hope Americans will raise a glass and connect with one another on their excitement for this delicious wine," said family member Stephanie Gallo, vice-president of marketing at E&J Gallo Winery.
The vineyard has been in family hands for over 75 years, since brothers Ernest and Julio Gallo founded the business. It had revenues of about $3.6 billion (€2.74 billion) last year, according to Forbes.
